Meet KiMiA

Play and Edit; Patch 1 and Patch 2, layers A to D and the eight engines; the library, banks, macros and Set pads.

6 lessons · about 78 minKiMiA and your keyboard

Before the synthesis, a tour. This module shows how KiMiA is built and where everything lives: the four screens, Patch 1 and Patch 2 with their four layers and eight engines, the sound library, the map of Edit, and the controls you will touch on stage.

It is short on theory and long on finding your way, with KiMiA’s own screens on every page: each screenshot is drawn by KiMiA’s interface code, with numbered marks that tell you what each part does. Work through the six lessons with KiMiA open beside you; each one ends with a few things to try and a short self-check.

Before you start

1. Download the course patches below: one KiMiA bank for the whole module. 2. In KiMiA, open the ••• menu next to Sound library and choose Import a bank. 3. Select the bank file. Its four sounds appear in the library as the bank KiMiA Course · Module 2 · Meet KiMiA, all starting with “02 ·”.

When the course updates the bank, import the new file the same way: KiMiA offers to replace the older version, and your favorites and Set pads keep working.

You need KiMiA 1.0 or later and a MIDI keyboard. Lesson 2.3 shows the import in more detail.
